About

I’m an instructional designer, educator, and writer with a passion for creating engaging, learner-centered experiences. Whether I’m designing a course, developing training materials, or refining complex ideas into clear, accessible content, my goal is always the same: to help people learn, grow, and communicate more effectively.

My path began with storytelling. As an avid writer and reader, I explored everything from children’s books and young adult fiction to essays and in-depth research.

I’ve always seen creative and intellectual writing as connected — strengthening one strengthens the other. This foundation in communication has shaped every step of my career.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in broadcasting and cinema from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and started out in the film and television industry. My interest in media and communication led me to pursue a Master of Arts in journalism and mass communication at the University of Colorado Boulder. There, I translated academic research into stories for general audiences, developed PR skills, and taught video production — an experience that sparked my passion for teaching.

That passion led me to pursue a PhD in media studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where I deepened my expertise in teaching, writing, and editing. I designed and taught courses, published articles, and held editorial roles with academic journals.

As a professor at Heidelberg University and Middle Georgia State University, I further honed my instructional skills, developing curriculum, guiding student journalists, and leading student media across print, video, and audio platforms. I also served as co-managing editor for an undergraduate research journal, blending my editorial and educational strengths.

Most recently, I completed a professional certificate in instructional design from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Through this program, I built skills in managing projects with instructional design models and methods, creating educational content with Articulate 360 software, and collaborating with subject matter experts to develop effective, engaging teaching materials.

Now, I bring all of these experiences together in my work as an instructional designer. I combine my background in education, writing, and media to design effective learning solutions and create content that resonates with diverse audiences. A lifelong learner myself, I’m always excited to tackle new challenges and continue growing as a designer, educator, writer, and content creator.
